E-commerce, commonly known as internet commerce refers to the system of buying and selling of goods or services through the internet, whereby the transaction of money is done electronically through the web.

What is E-commerce SEO?

It is the way through which you target the keywords similar to your brand and escalate your visibility on the net so that your business can outshine.

For all those who think that e-commerce SEO and traditional SEO are the same, we will be throwing light on their differences in this article.

How is e-commerce SEO different?

When you search for something on Google, you get a list of top 10 related sites on page 1 followed by other pages.

E-commerce is about ensuring that your product and services appear among the top 10 list of page 1 while traditional SEO aims at giving you the rating all over the pages on Google including page 1 according to the keywords you are targeting.

The difference might seem to be very less but it definitely should be considered.

Why is the E-commerce SEO needed?

The need to get into the top 10 list is high. For that, you have to be in the top ten websites among the thousand others that are present in the market.

You also have to top the website as the conversion rates decrease as you move towards the bottom of the page. Look at the percentages below, and you will understand.

91.5% of people go to page 1 of Google, followed by 4.8% on page 2, while a small amount of 1.1% of people lands on page 3.

32.5% of people click the first result on page 1, 17.6% on other sites and this goes on decreasing till we have 2.4% only clicking the last result.

How the SEO ranks your website to rank you in the top 10 results?

Google has quality raters through which it rates your website and ascertains your position.

Google quality raters have specific guidelines to evaluate the sites they see in the search results. These quality raters ensure that the entire positive and the unfavorable reviews of the user are incorporated in their ranking.

Google values user experience and is aimed at providing the users with the best sites on which they can get their answers without searching for another keyword.

Accordingly, the engineers give them new guidelines for search results and check if there is any change in the result. This process goes on and on, and the rankings change accordingly.

For E-commerce, the SEO score depends on the content writing, description of the product, with eye-catchy and relevant images and videos, the rating of the product and most importantly the overall reviews of the customers.

How to improve your e-commerce SEO score?

Simple is Underrated

The first and foremost thing to be kept in mind is that the website should be user-friendly.

As we have previously mentioned, Google is all about enhancing the user experience. If your site lacks that you will be disqualified from the race.

It means that the buttons should be big enough to catch the eyes of the visitor, there should be no glitches in the site, the website should not take minutes to load and most importantly during high traffic the site should not break.

Moreover, the visitors should not have to press the back button to surf your website. The site should be easily navigable so that the visitor can find what they are looking for in minutes.

This does not imply that you keep changing your site structure as and when you add new products.

Website Should Be Familiar

It has been already mentioned that it is all about user experience. You need to make the customer happy when they buy something from your website. Remember an unhappy customer is more important to attend than a happy one.

The quality of the product makes the customer happy but what is more important is that you don’t regularly change your website’s structure. Nobody wants to spend a minute or two extra to figure out the changes on the site.

Make the customer feel at home and if changes are required, make them slowly instead of producing a brand new website for them.

Not More Than 3 Clicks

Try to give your customers the product in the minimum number of clicks possible.

The customer will not hesitate to press the close button if they do not get the desired results within a certain amount of time.

Also, this can be understood by the simple fact that most of your website’s authority is linked to the first page so the farther your product is from the homepage, the less power you have.

Use Keywords

Keywords are one of the primary and critical aspects of SEO. These are a combination of words that the website puts in their article for the SEO to rank.

Having said that, now you must consider the importance of getting page 1 ranking for your website. Keywords should, therefore, be used in the titles, meta tags, file names, product descriptions, alt text, and whatever you are posting on your website.

You should never choose a competitive keyword because it will decrease your chances of being on page 1 ranking.

This is because using keywords that are used by many websites will involve more sites and increase competition which can lead to the SEO ignoring you or giving you a lower rank. Therefore, try using long keywords but do not forget to match them with your articles.

When you use long keywords, the amount of competition decreases and escalates your chances of being in the top rankings.

Image Quality

E-commerce is all about the product that you sell. The reviews make or break you because they determine your sales and reputation.

The image of the product is the only thing that lets your audience see what they are buying.

Sometimes a very high-quality product may go unnoticed if the picture you posted of the product is of low-quality, making the customer feel that the product might also be unproductive.

An opposite case may also happen. The customer, due to the image quality buys a product of substandard quality and then goes thrashing your website for the defective product.

Both conditions will lead to an unhappy customer, and this is not good for your business. So you must be very conscious about the photographs you post.

Appealing Videos

Videos have the capacity of convincing even the laziest people. They are one sure-shot solution to your marketing dilemma.

Any product that is not able to impress the customers can lure customers through visually appealing videos.

You should follow some specific guidelines to make your videos more effective.

The first thing to be considered is the time limit. Your video should not exceed more than two minutes else your visitor will lose interest.

Secondly, you should be able to directly appeal the audience through the video and make them feel good about the product.

Once you get them to trust you, your sales will skyrocket.

Product Description

The first thing one notices while browsing through a product online is its description.

Therefore, remember to put a brief intro of the product instead of lengthy paragraphs. After all, no one likes reading lengthy articles.

Restrict yourself to small lines or maybe the tabular form might do the trick for you.
In any case, don’t forget to put the product description.

Backlinks (Needed for all SEOs):

Backlinks are the backbone of all types of SEOs. Relevant quality backlinks can act as a catalyst for your SEO campaign providing a boost to rankings of your website.

Follow the guidelines mentioned above, and see your website in the top ranks.
